The CS-US Interval Function in Rabbit Nictitating Membrane Response Conditioning: Single vs Multiple Trials Per Conditioning Session1

چکیده

The effect of varying trials per day conditions on the CS-US interval or interstimulus interval (ISI) function in rabbit nictitating membrane response conditioning was studied in two experiments. Experiment 1 showed that a 1250-msec IS1 was more effective than a 250-msec IS1 when there was 1 trial/day. Experiment 2 showed that as the number of trials per day decreased from 20 to 1, the superiority of the 250-msec IS1 group over the 1250-msec IS1 group declined, with a reversal at 1 trial/day. Results are interpreted in terms of the role of a hypothesized CS-elicited shortduration orienting response in CR performance.

Magnitude and timing of conditioned responses in delay and trace classical conditioning of the nictitating membrane response of the rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus).

The present experiment characterized conditioned nictitating membrane (NM) movements as a function of CS duration, using the full range of discernible movements (>.06 mm) rather than movements exceeding a conventional criterion (>.50 mm). The CS-US interval was fixed at 500 ms, while across groups, the duration of the CS was 50 ms (trace), 550 ms (delay), or 1050 ms (extended delay). The delay ...

Classical conditioning of the rabbit nictitating membrane response can be fast or slow : Implications for Lennartz and Weinberger ' s ( 1992 ) two - factor theory

Classical conditioning of the rabbit's nictitating membrane (NM) response usually requires several dozen trials for the first conditioned response (CR) to appear. However, as the number of trials is reduced to one per session, the rate of acquisition increases progressively, and the first CR appears in less than a dozen trials. This large and systematic variation in the rate of conditioning cha...

Sequence of single neuron changes in CA1 hippocampus of rabbits during acquisition of trace eyeblink conditioned responses.

The sequence of changes in single neuron activity in the CA1 area of the rabbit hippocampus was examined during daily sessions (80 trials/session) of hippocampally dependent nonspatial trace eyeblink (i.e., nictitating membrane response) conditioning. Each trial for trace conditioned animals (n = 7) consisted of a tone conditioned stimulus (CS; 6 kHz; 90 dB, 100 ms) followed by a 500-ms silent ...

Neuronal activity in the medial prefrontal cortex during Pavlovian eyeblink and nictitating membrane conditioning.

The present study assessed Pavlovian eyeblink (EB) conditioning, using tones and periorbital shock as the conditioned and unconditioned stimuli (CS and US), and nictitating membrane (NM) conditioning, using tones and airpuffs as the CS and US. During each experiment, CS-evoked changes in multiple-unit activity (MUA) in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) were recorded. Concomitant heart rate (H...
